CAF Raises Prizes for African Champions League and Confederation Cup
CAF has increased the prize money for the African Champions League to $6 million and the Confederation Cup to $4 million for the 2025-26 season.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced an increase in the prize money for club tournaments, raising the Champions League award to $6 million, which represents a 50% increase. The prize for the Confederation Cup has also been raised to $4 million, doubling the previous amount. This adjustment was revealed by CAF's president, Patrice Motsepe, during a press statement, emphasizing the commitment to enhancing financial rewards for African clubs.
These prize increases aim to motivate clubs and players while emphasizing the growing competitiveness of African football on the international stage. The cumulative financial awards and solidarity payments allocated to African clubs will exceed $42 million per season, marking significant growth in investment in the continent's football structure.
The move is seen as a strategic enhancement of the league's appeal, potentially attracting more talent and higher participation rates across the continent. As these increases take effect, they will reshape the financial landscape for clubs aspiring to international success, reflecting a broader trend of investment intended to elevate the standards of African club football.
