The future Trueta hospital will have a promenade, squares, and will be connected with Girona and Salt
The future Josep Trueta hospital in Girona will feature a pedestrian promenade, squares, and will connect with the cities of Girona and Salt.
The upcoming Hospital Josep Trueta in Girona has announced its winning project from a competition organized by the Catalan government-owned company Infraestructures.cat, showcasing a design that prioritizes a 'human scale'. The ambitious project addresses the challenges of constructing a complex of significant size and intricacy. It promises to incorporate an internal promenade and ample public spaces, enhancing community interaction.
Located on a 175,000 square meter site south of Girona, the new hospital will offer 900 underground parking spaces and serve as a crucial component of the Girona Health Campus. The architect consortium, including PINEARQ, SLP&Brullet de Luna, and SLP&PEGI engineering, has been tasked with developing the project further. Within six weeks of the contract signing, this team will have a two-year period to deliver the preliminary and executive plans for the hospital, ensuring it meets the needs of the surrounding regions.
This initiative signifies a shift in healthcare infrastructure towards more accessible and community-oriented designs, fostering connectivity between the hospital and the neighboring areas of Girona and Salt. The focus on human-scale architecture reflects a broader trend in public health projects aimed at enhancing the patient experience and encouraging a sense of community within healthcare settings.
