FULL LIST: Dangote leads as Africa’s billionaires add $20bn to fortunes
Africa’s billionaires collectively added $20.3 billion to their fortunes in the past year, led by Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote.
According to the latest Africa Billionaires ranking released by Forbes, Africa's billionaire community has grown substantially, with their combined wealth rising to $126.7 billion—an increase of 21% since 2025. The report highlights that these billionaires added a total of $20.3 billion over the last year, primarily driven by robust performance in equity markets and a stabilization of regional currencies. This growth reflects positive economic conditions that have benefited wealthy individuals across the continent.
Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote continues to dominate the rankings as Africa's richest person, boasting an estimated net worth of $28.5 billion, a notable increase of $4.6 billion from the previous year. Dangote’s fortune has grown particularly due to significant gains in Dangote Cement, where the company's shares have surged nearly 69% over the past year. This growth trajectory is a direct result of the company's impressive performance, which saw its profits double to a record one trillion naira in 2025.
Additionally, the report signifies Nigeria's prominent position in the African billionaire landscape, featuring four of its business moguls on the list. Alongside Dangote, business figures such as Mike Adenuga, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Femi Otedola also represent Nigeria’s significant wealth. Furthermore, Dangote's announcement of a $400 million deal with a Chinese machinery company to enhance refinery capacity by 2029 suggests ongoing investments that can propel further growth in both his business and the broader economic environment in Nigeria and Africa at large.
