The search operations led by the Brazilian Fire Department are focused on locating Luciano Franklin Fernandes, a 50-year-old man who disappeared when he was swept away by a flood in Ubá, located in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais. As of Monday, the search efforts have reached the 15-day mark since he went missing on the early morning of February 24. The team consists of 33 military personnel who are conducting systematic searches along the banks of the Rio Ubá, utilizing multiple fronts to cover the area.
The rescue teams are employing various strategies to increase the chances of locating Fernandes. They are conducting ground searches where teams traverse trails and dense forest areas, supported by trained canines specialized in locating individuals in hard-to-access locations. This comprehensive approach highlights the urgency and difficulty of the search, as searches often require navigating challenging terrain due to the flood's impact.
The emotional toll of the situation is also evident, especially considering that Fernandes's girlfriend clung to a post for three hours amid the flood to avoid being swept away herself.
