Adamawa Assembly confirms Atiku’s son’s replacement, two other commissioner-nominees
The Adamawa State House of Assembly confirmed the appointment of three new commissioner-nominees, following the resignation of Adamu Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
On Monday, the Adamawa State House of Assembly held a session to screen and confirm three commissioner-nominees who were forwarded by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. This development comes in the wake of the resignation of Adamu Atiku, the son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who stepped down after Fintiri's defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress. The nominees that received confirmation during the session include Sali Idris from Maiha Local Government Area, Muhammed Suleiman from Mubi North LGA, and Chubado Mohammed from Jada LGA.
Speaker of the Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, emphasized the Assembly's constitutional responsibility to ensure that public service nominees are credible and capable of delivering quality service to the citizens of Adamawa State. This statement underscores the importance placed on accountability and service delivery within the local government. Governor Fintiri had submitted these names as part of his administrative adjustments following his party's transition, revealing the shifting political dynamics in the state.
The appointment of these commissioners is significant as it reflects the current political landscape in Adamawa and indicates ongoing changes within the state's administration. The confirmations also signal the Assembly's role in maintaining a government that is responsive to the people, as this process of screening nominees is crucial for governance. The outcome can have implications for the governance of Adamawa State, particularly in fulfilling the administrative goals set forth by the governor amid a politically shifting environment.
