Strike of Junior Doctors in MP Begins, Know What Are the Major Demands?

Junior doctors in Madhya Pradesh have started a strike demanding the implementation of a pending stipend revision related to their work.

Junior doctors across all medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh have initiated a strike today, calling for the long-overdue implementation of a revised stipend. According to the Junior Doctors Association, they will not provide services in outpatient departments (OPD) until their demands are addressed. The president of the association, Dr. Mahendra Pratap Singh, stated that the CPI-based stipend was supposed to be implemented from April 1, 2025, but it has not yet been finalized, leading to dissatisfaction among the doctors due to the lack of communication regarding pending dues.

Currently, the striking junior doctors have set up a tent within the Hamidia Hospital complex to operate the OPD. However, there seems to be no immediate impact of the strike, as senior doctors are managing the OPD and emergency services. Junior doctors handle more than half of the work at medical colleges, and although the first day of the strike appears to have minimal effects, the situation could change dramatically if the strike continues over an extended period, potentially crippling outpatient services.

The ongoing situation emphasizes the crucial role that junior doctors play in the healthcare system of Madhya Pradesh, highlighting the need for proper negotiations regarding their stipends and working conditions. If the demands of these junior doctors are not met promptly, it could lead to significant disruptions in medical services, affecting countless patients relying on these essential healthcare provisions in the state.
