An 82-year-old retired doctor in Patras has been jailed on charges of child pornography after being found to have uploaded abusive material online.
An 82-year-old retired doctor has been sentenced to temporary detention in Patras, Greece, after being accused of child pornography. Following his appearance in court, the magistrate and prosecutor agreed on the decision for the former physician, who was implicated in the case due to a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the United States. The investigation revealed that he had uploaded child sexual abuse material on the internet.
The Hellenic Police identified the suspect as part of a broader investigation that originated from evidence provided by NCMEC. Following this, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough investigation that confirmed his identity and pinpointed his residence in Patras. The police were able to substantiate the allegations against him through extensive investigative work, leading to his arrest.
Last Friday, police officers from the Cyber Crime Unit, alongside those from the Patras Crimes and Investigations subdivision, executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home in the presence of a judicial official. During this search, they claimed to have found and seized mobile devices that contained incriminating evidence relating to the case. This event underscores the growing vigilance against online child exploitation and the legal measures being enforced to combat such heinous crimes.
