Lotus has recently announced the introduction of a plug-in hybrid variant of its Eletre X SUV, moving away from earlier plans that strictly envisioned a fully electric range under Geely's ownership. This decision reflects the current market conditions and the need to adopt a mixed strategy, which has already been implemented in China and is now poised to enter the European market. The new Eletre X PHEV merges two electric motors and a 70 kWh battery with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that functions as a generator, thus expanding performance options for consumers.

The Eletre X PHEV boasts a combined output of 952 horsepower, surpassing the top-performing electric version of the Eletre by approximately 50 horsepower. This increase in power represents a significant step in Lotus's strategy to enhance performance while accommodating different powertrains and optimizing range.
