Israel: The army states that it is unaware of any conflict with Hezbollah at the borders with Syria

The Israeli army denied reports of a conflict with Hezbollah fighters in eastern Lebanon, despite Hezbollah's claims of engaging with Israeli troops coming from Syria.

On Monday, the Israeli military announced that it had no knowledge of any clashes with Hezbollah militants in eastern Lebanon. This statement came after Hezbollah, an Iran-backed Lebanese group, reported that they had fought off Israeli soldiers who were reportedly advancing from Syria. Hezbollah claimed that they observed 15 helicopters flying over eastern Lebanon shortly after midnight, deploying Israeli troops that were seen approaching Lebanese territory from the Syrian side of the border.

According to Hezbollah, their militants engaged these helicopters and the infiltrating forces with appropriate arms. In contrast, the Israeli military stated they were unaware of any such incidents taking place, indicating a lack of confirmed information regarding the reported altercation. Meanwhile, Reuters has not been able to verify Hezbollah's claims about the confrontation, pointing to a significant information gap amid rising tensions in the region.

The situation is further complicated by a recent Israeli airstrike in the same area, near the village of Nabi Sheet, occurring on Friday night. The Israeli military described this airstrike as part of their efforts to search for the remains of a soldier. The discrepancy in narratives between Hezbollah and the Israeli army reflects ongoing hostilities and the complex security dynamics along the Israel-Lebanon-Syria border, underscoring the fragile geopolitical landscape in the region.
