In 2025, Chinese entrepreneurs established one in five of the online companies in Russia, showcasing a remarkable penetration into the local market. According to a report by T-Bank's T-Business division, out of 4,084 registered companies in Russia with Chinese CEOs or founders, 2,077 focused specifically on the e-commerce sector. This surge reflects a year-on-year growth of 140% in Chinese e-commerce enterprises, highlighting their growing influence and presence in Russia's online retail landscape.
E-commerce represented over half of all new companies initiated by Chinese nationals, followed by wholesale and retail trades, which constituted 19% and over 9% respectively. The total number of Chinese companies in Russia increased by 35% from the previous year and by a staggering 86% since 2023, marking the fastest growth rate among all foreign business entities in the country. This acceleration indicates a strong demand for e-commerce solutions and a favorable business environment for Chinese investors.
Additionally, the trend includes the acquisition of existing Russian companies, with Chinese nationals acquiring one existing business for every three new companies registered in 2025. This strategy could potentially reshape the competitive landscape of the Russian market, as established companies can leverage the expertise and capital of Chinese entrepreneurs. The implications of this growing relationship between Chinese and Russian businesses may have far-reaching effects on trade policies and economic ties between the two nations.
