Stuck in Dubai due to the war.. Arnold, Iraq's coach, makes an urgent appeal to FIFA
Graham Arnold, coach of the Iraq national football team, has urgently appealed to FIFA for a postponement of the World Cup qualifier due to logistical issues stemming from the escalating conflict in Iran.
Graham Arnold, the coach of Iraq's national football team, has made an urgent appeal to FIFA requesting the postponement of Iraq's World Cup qualifying match, citing severe logistical challenges due to rising tensions from the ongoing conflict in Iran. The match is currently scheduled for March 31st in Monterrey, Mexico, and Arnold's team faces a host of difficulties in preparations.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in the closure of airspace until April 1st, preventing Arnold and the majority of his players, who mainly come from the local league, from fully assembling for training. Additionally, players have been unable to obtain visas to travel to Mexico for the qualifying match, primarily due to the closure of foreign embassies, complicating matters further for the national team.
Arnold, a former coach of the Australian national team, expressed his desperation in an interview with the Associated Press, stating, "Please help us regarding this match, as we are currently struggling to get our players out of Iraq." The unrest has already led to the postponement of a training camp that was planned in Houston, highlighting the broader impact of the conflict on the Iraq football team and their World Cup aspirations.
