Estonian President Alar Karis has not signed the recall of Ambassador Jaap Ora, who has been in a controversial position since he resigned three months ago due to criticism aimed at Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna. The situation arose after Karis's state visit to Kazakhstan, where Ora advised against making public statements supporting Ukraine at the trip’s outset. This prompted scrutiny and questions around the appropriateness of the ambassador's role in light of Estonia's diplomatic stance.

Jaap Ora claims that his resignation was not voluntary, stating that diplomats rarely leave their positions without considerable thought and not without cause. Despite attempts by the media to obtain comments from the President's office regarding the status of the ambassador's recall, there has been no response. President Karis did mention in a recent press conference following a meeting of the National Defence Council that he is awaiting the submission of a new ambassador, indicating a potential shift in Estonia's diplomatic engagement in Kazakhstan as they face these complications.
