BPTran registers 11 traffic accidents just this weekend in Sergipe

The BPTran reported 11 traffic accidents over the weekend in Sergipe, resulting in injuries but no fatalities.

Over the weekend, the Batalhão de Polícia de Trânsito de Sergipe (BPTran) recorded 11 traffic accidents across the state, leading to 11 injuries and no deaths. This data was released on Monday,October 9. Among those involved, two individuals showed signs of driving under the influence. In one instance, a driver refused an alcohol breath test, while another participant tested at 0.65 mg/L of alcohol, which is classified as a traffic offense in Brazil, leading to their arrest and subsequent detainment at a police station.

Further analysis from BPTran pointed to a contrasting trend in traffic incidents compared to previous years. In the first two months of 2025, 231 traffic accidents resulted in 8 deaths and 295 injuries. Conversely, during the same timeframe in 2026, there were 200 accidents, 9 fatalities, and 222 injuries. Notably, these figures suggest a subtle decline in accidents, but the increase in fatalities indicates ongoing concerns about road safety.

The Batalhão de Polícia Rodoviária Estadual (BPRv) also added to the statistics, recording five additional accidents between March 6 and March 8. This ongoing situation underscores the need for public awareness and policy interventions to address road safety issues in Sergipe and, more broadly, in Brazil.
