A group of eight young men, seven from France and one from Switzerland, have collectively received a sentence of 72 years in prison for the sexual assault and severe abuse of a British tourist in Magaluf, a popular tourist destination in Mallorca. The incident took place on August 14, 2023, in a hotel room, where the defendants admitted to their crimes during the trial held at the Provincial Court of Palma. The most significant individual sentence among them is 13 years and three months.

The case, which has drawn significant media attention, highlights issues regarding tourism related to alcohol consumption and the safety of tourists, particularly in areas like Magaluf, which is notorious for binge drinking and rowdy behavior from its visitors. The accused reportedly recorded 21 videos of the assault, which can exacerbate the trauma experienced by the victim and add to the severity of their actions in the eyes of the law.

Initially, the prosecution sought sentences totaling 153 years; however, the defendants, by admitting their guilt and paying compensation of 150,000 euros, managed to secure reduced sentences.
