In a dramatic incident that unfolded in Bergen, Norway, a convict sentenced for attempted murder escaped while undergoing a planned medical treatment at Haukeland University Hospital. The escape occurred around 00:30 on a Tuesday when the inmate took advantage of an opportunity and fled, prompting an immediate police response.
Law enforcement officials quickly mobilized to search the city center of Bergen following the escape. Their efforts were successful, leading to the apprehension of the fugitive at a local hotel. During the arrest, police also detained two other individuals believed to have assisted in the escape, indicating potential connections or collaboration with the escaped inmate. Police operations manager Knut Dahl-Michelsen shared details of the successful search and subsequent arrests.
The escaped individual has since been returned to Bergen prison for further medical care, while the two accomplices, one in his 30s and another in his 20s, remain in custody. They are suspected of aiding the escape, although police investigations are still in the early stages. Prosecutor Martina Uksanovic noted that they are gathering more information and have yet to interrogate the detained accomplices, keeping the investigation's details preliminary.
