Comcap archive in Florianópolis catches fire and guard ends up in hospital after inhaling smoke
A fire at the Comcap archive in Florianópolis required a guard to be hospitalized due to smoke inhalation.
In the early hours of a Monday morning, a fire broke out at the archive of the Companhia de Melhoramentos da Capital (Comcap) in Florianópolis. The incident occurred around 4:30 AM on Campolino Alves Street in the Capoeiras neighborhood. The local firefighters were alerted, and a total of three firefighting vehicles, one ambulance, and 14 military firefighters were deployed to manage the situation.
The firefighters discovered that the blaze was confined to one of the rooms in the archive, which contained a significant amount of combustible materials, making the fire particularly challenging to control. Visibility within the area was severely limited, hampering the operational efforts of the firefighting teams. Thankfully, the flames were contained to the initial environment, preventing the fire from spreading further while an investigation is set to determine the cause of the blaze.
In the course of this incident, a security guard stationed at the archive inhaled smoke and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. While the fire was successfully managed and localized, the event raises concerns regarding fire safety measures and emergency preparedness in public facilities, highlighting the need for rigorous checks and training to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
