CENTCOM: We warn Iran against using civilian areas and we will target them
The U.S. Central Command warns Iran that their military operations in populated civilian areas may turn those regions into legitimate military targets.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has issued a stern warning to Iran about its use of densely populated civilian areas for military operations. According to a statement made via social media platform X, CENTCOM highlighted that Iran is employing civilian zones to launch drones and ballistic missiles, which endangers the lives of ordinary civilians in the country. The command emphasized that such military uses diminish the protected status of these sites, meaning they can be treated as legitimate military objectives under international law.
In its statement, CENTCOM strongly urged Iranian civilians to remain indoors in order to safeguard their lives from potential military actions that could arise from the military's choice of operating in civilian spaces. The command accused the Iranian regime of deliberately risking the lives of innocents while attacking its partners in the Gulf region. The comments were made amidst escalating tensions in the region, particularly following the onset of U.S.-Israeli military actions against Iran which began recently.
Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, stated that the Iranian regime is blatantly disregarding civilian lives. He underscored that the Iranian military's activities not only jeopardize the safety of the Iranian population but also threaten regional stability through their aggressive stance against neighboring countries. These developments highlight the urgent need for a reevaluation of military strategies in conflict zones that involve civilian populations, especially as military conflicts continue to escalate in the area.
