Despite smoke detectors being mandatory in Estonia since 2009, nearly one in ten homes still lack functioning units, and many others have devices that are either placed incorrectly or are outdated. This alarming situation can delay the detection of a fire, significantly increasing the risks to life and property. The article underlines that while traditional smoke detectors are designed to alert those present in the home, they may not provide protection in cases of absence. Experts advocate for smart smoke detectors that can notify homeowners remotely and effectively safeguard children, pets, and property, even when the occupants are away.
