Berg am Laim: Car Burns – Richard Strauss Tunnel Closed
The Richard Strauss Tunnel in Berg am Laim is closed due to a car fire, causing significant traffic delays in the area.
On Monday morning, the Richard Strauss Tunnel in Berg am Laim was closed following a car fire that prompted a response from emergency services. Witnesses reported flames and smoke emanating from the vehicle, along with a strong acrid smell in the air. Numerous fire and police vehicles were visible near the Leuchtenbergring as the situation developed.
According to a fire department spokesperson, the car caught fire within the tunnel, with initial reports mistakenly citing the Innsbrucker-Ring Tunnel. At the time of the report, there was no information available regarding the cause of the fire or any potential injuries. Emergency operations were ongoing, with firefighters tackling the blaze which was extinguished shortly before 9 AM.
Despite the fire being put out, the closure of the tunnel resulted in extensive traffic jams, prompting police to block the tunnel chain from Effner to Leuchtenbergring Tunnel. Google Maps indicated heavy traffic congestion in the area, with dark red lines marking slow-moving vehicles both south and north of the tunnel as well as on the eastbound approach via the A94, highlighting the incident's impact on local traffic conditions.
