Bright as Day at Night... Photos Emerge After Airstrike on Tehran
Images from Tehran reveal thick black smoke filling the sky and a layer of soot covering streets and homes following an airstrike on oil facilities.
Following an airstrike on Tehran on Sunday morning, the city was engulfed in thick black smoke, leading to significant pollution that covered streets, cars, and balconies with soot. Residents reported that visibility was so poor that the sun was not visible, forcing people to turn on lights during the daytime due to the extreme darkness caused by the smoke. The air quality deteriorated rapidly, causing alarm among the population.
Reports indicate that the airstrikes targeted four oil depots and a petroleum logistics site surrounding Tehran, with local authorities confirming six fatalities and around twenty injuries resulting from the attacks. Videos shared by Iranian journalists on social media depicted massive clouds of fire and smoke billowing above the city, illustrating the severity of the situation. Persisting smoke plumes continued to rise from several oil storage facilities on Sunday morning, exacerbating the already hazardous air quality in the area.
As the city faced a rainfall after the strikes, officials warned residents of the potential for hazardous 'acid rain' due to the contamination. The Iranian Red Crescent advised citizens to avoid going outside immediately after the rain and to keep their air conditioners turned off to prevent further exposure to the toxic environment. Residents were also cautioned to avoid eating food left outside, highlighting the public health risks following this devastating attack on the cityโs infrastructure.
