SDM Injured by Dog Attack, Requested Leave with Thumb Impression Instead of Signature from DM
SDM Alok Pratap Singh from Ballia district suffered serious injuries from a dog attack while trying to protect his father, leading him to request medical leave due to his inability to sign documents.
In a peculiar incident in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Alok Pratap Singh was attacked by his own pet American Bully dog on March 5. The incident unfolded at the official residence of the SDM while he was attempting to save his father from the aggressive dog. The dog inflicted severe wounds on both of the SDM's hands, resulting in considerable blood loss and preventing him from fulfilling his official duties, including signing important documents.
Due to the severity of his injuries, SDM Singh sought medical leave from the District Magistrate (DM) for better treatment. His injuries were serious enough to affect his ability to perform his responsibilities effectively, prompting him to use a thumb impression in place of a signature to formalize his leave request. The DM approved the leave and arranged for another officer to take over Singh's duties during his absence, ensuring that administrative functions would continue without interruption.
The incident was shared widely on social media, drawing attention not only to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the SDM's injuries but also to the implications of keeping aggressive pets. It highlights the potential dangers of owning large dog breeds without adequate control and serves as a reminder of the responsibilities pet owners have to ensure their animals do not pose a threat to others, particularly in domestic settings.
