General Staff: Russia has lost 1,274,040 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022
According to Ukraine's General Staff, Russia has incurred significant troop losses and military equipment casualties since its invasion started in February 2022.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported that Russia has lost approximately 1,274,040 troops since initiating its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. This figure includes the recent loss of 750 Russian soldiers over a 24-hour period. The report further details extensive losses in military equipment, including thousands of tanks, armored vehicles, artillery systems, aircraft, and drones, highlighting the ongoing heavy toll of the conflict on the Russian military.
In addition to the troop losses, the report indicates that Russia has seen a staggering depletion of military resources, with over 11,000 tanks and more than 24,000 armored combat vehicles being destroyed. Artillery losses are also notable, with around 38,000 systems reported lost. These numbers reflect not only Russia's operational challenges on the battlefield but also the effectiveness of Ukraine's defensive strategies and capabilities.
While the General Staff of Ukraine has been forthcoming with reports on Russian losses, it has maintained a level of operational secrecy regarding its own casualties. However, independent analysts, such as those from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), suggest that the loss ratio is heavily weighted against Russia, estimating that Ukrainian losses range between 500,000 and 600,000 based on the ongoing conflict's dynamics. This context underscores the tragic human cost of the war and the significant challenges faced by both nations as they continue to engage in this protracted conflict.
