The 'underground' Amazon arrives at Line 3 of Metro: 57 collection points will be installed with capacity for more than 3,000 packages

The Community of Madrid is set to install smart lockers across all stations on Line 3 of the Metro, allowing for e-commerce package collection.

In March, the Community of Madrid will begin installing smart lockers at every station on Line 3 of the Metro for the collection of e-commerce parcels. This initiative positions the Madrid region at the forefront of innovative logistics globally, featuring three different sizes of lockers at each of the 19 stations, thereby establishing a network of 57 collection points capable of holding over 3,000 packages. The lockers will be operational every day throughout the Metro's service hours, from 6:00 AM to 1:30 AM.

Named Metropaq, this project will integrate the services of major logistics companies such as Amazon, GLS, and SEUR into Line 3 by mid-March, with full operational status expected by the end of April. The implementation of the locker system is meticulously planned to ensure seamless compatibility with the Metro's operations, ensuring that delivery logistics do not disrupt passenger services.

This initiative not only modernizes the parcel collection process for residents and commuters but also reflects a significant step towards enhancing urban logistics. By providing convenient pick-up points within the Metro system, it supports the increasing demand for e-commerce services while optimizing space and resources in a densely populated urban area like Madrid.
