The 4th Korean Independent Film Awards have awarded the highest honor to director Jung Yoon-seok for his courageous documentary work. Jung, who was filmed at the site of the Western District Court where the arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk-yeol was issued, faced charges of building intrusion and received guilty verdicts in both the first and second trials. The awards ceremony, held by the Korean Association of Art Film Cinemas (Hankyohyeob), recognized his dedication to documenting difficult realities, highlighting the artistic potential of independent cinema in South Korea.
In addition to Jung's significant achievement, other awards were given to various filmmakers for their outstanding contributions in separate categories. The Best Domestic Film award went to director Lee Ran-hee's 'Second Semester of 3rd Year', while the Best Foreign Film award was presented to Jafar Panahi's 'It Was Just an Accident'. Other notable recognitions included the Best Director award for Yoon Ga-eun and the Best Actor award for Seo Soo-bin, who made her film debut in the same noted film.
