Reassuring statistics on online shopping

Finnish online shopping is on the rise, with a substantial increase in parcels ordered from domestic sources compared to foreign ones in 2025.

According to the newly published Package Index by Digital Commerce Finland, the number of packages ordered by Finns from their home country has been growing rapidly, outpacing those ordered from abroad. On average, a Finn orders about 15 packages from online stores each year. In 2025, a total of 69.3 million online shopping parcels were received in Finland, which is an increase of 8.4 million compared to the previous year.

The trend indicates a significant shift towards domestic online shopping, with Finnish consumers favoring local e-commerce over international options. Specifically, the number of packages ordered from Finnish online stores increased by 22.2% in 2025 compared to 2024, while the growth of orders from foreign sources was a modest 4.4%. This change highlights a growing confidence in local retailers and reflects changing consumer preferences as more people turn to domestic suppliers for their shopping needs.

The rise of homegrown e-commerce represents a substantial opportunity for Finnish businesses, fostering growth and expansion as they tap into digital channels. Experts from Digital Commerce Finland emphasize that this trend is not only beneficial for local companies but also has implications for international market opportunities, as increased domestic sales create a stronger foundation for Finnish firms to consider expanding beyond their home territories.
