‘Unlawful Support for Holding Company’ E-Land Retail's Fine Confirmed by Supreme Court
The South Korean Supreme Court has upheld a fine of approximately 1.4 billion won against E-Land Retail amidst allegations of unfair support to its financially troubled holding company.
In a significant ruling on the financial practices of E-Land Group, the South Korean Supreme Court has confirmed a fine of 1.4 billion won against E-Land Retail, derived from a larger fine imposed for unfair trade practices. The case centers around E-Land Retail’s controversial actions in 2016, where it purchased properties from its holding company, E-Land World, for 670 billion won but later rescinded the deal after paying 560 billion won, returning the agreement’s deposit. The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) viewed this as a misrepresentation of a real estate transaction intended to mask a significant and unfounded financial loan between the companies.
