A massive amount of rotten flesh found inside the actor star - 'I was dead for three days'
Billy Porter recounts a near-fatal experience with urosepsis following a routine medical check-up where a kidney stone was discovered.
American actor-singer Billy Porter, 56, has opened up about a life-threatening experience with urosepsis, as reported by People magazine. During a routine check-up in September 2025, doctors found a kidney stone lodged in his urethra. Porter described that when they managed to access the stone, there was a massive accumulation of rotten flesh, bile, and infection behind it, which caused it to bubble and led to a rapid onset of sepsis due to a urinary tract infection.
Porter's condition deteriorated to a point where he required ECMO treatment, a procedure used to provide life support in cases of severe respiratory or circulatory failure that does not respond to other forms of treatment. He described the severity of his illness by stating, "I was dead for three days," emphasizing the gravity of his situation and reaffirming his view as a "walking miracle" after recovering.
Sepsis, as defined by health libraries, is a misregulated bodily response to infection that can lead to organ failure. This invasive and severe response to infections highlights the importance of timely medical interventions and the ongoing issues related to health care access and awareness, underscoring how personal health experiences can resonate with broader public health discussions.
