'A woman's place is where she wants to be', says first road transport manager in company in Santos
Layla Machado Dias has become the first woman to manage the road transport sector at CarpoLog, marking a significant milestone in a male-dominated field.
Layla Machado Dias, at just 29 years old, has made history by becoming the first woman to lead the road transport department at CarpoLog, a foreign trade and integrated logistics company in Santos, São Paulo. Her promotion, which came last year, is notable not only for breaking gender norms within this industry but also for being part of the company's 20-year history, where only men had previously held this managerial position. Currently, Layla oversees a team of 52 professionals, where the workforce is predominantly male, with 86% being men.
In an interview with G1 on International Women's Day, Layla expressed her commitment to her job and emphasized the importance of women taking on roles in sectors traditionally dominated by men. She stated, "I dedicate a lot to my profession and show that a woman's place is where she wants it to be," highlighting the barriers many women face in similar roles. Since her takeover, she has successfully increased the financial targets for her sector, achieving results that had not been seen in two years.
Layla's leadership is a significant step towards gender equality in the workplace, particularly in the logistics industry. As she continues to carve a path for other women, her role serves to inspire and challenge existing stereotypes about women in leadership positions. Her story represents not just a personal achievement but a broader cultural shift towards accepting and encouraging women's leadership in all fields, making her a vital role model for future generations of women in Brazil and beyond.
