International Women’s Day 2026: These are the assistance programs for Mexican women

On International Women’s Day, the Secretary of Welfare highlighted the federal government’s social programs aimed at recognizing women's contributions to the country's development.

In observance of International Women’s Day, Ariadna Montiel, the Secretary of Welfare, emphasized the federal government's social programs designed to acknowledge and support the invaluable contributions of women to Mexico's development. She announced that over 18.5 million women in Mexico currently benefit from pensions or aid provided by the Well-being Programs, illustrating a significant recognition of their work and efforts. Montiel framed these programs as pivotal in promoting gender equity and enhancing women’s roles in society.

A key feature of these initiatives is the Women’s Well-being Pension, which offers 3,100 pesos bi-monthly directly to nearly 3 million women aged between 60 and 64 years. This assistance aims to foster economic independence and improve the quality of life for older women, addressing the long-standing economic disparities they face. By providing direct financial support without intermediaries, the program seeks to ensure that funds reach those in need effectively.

Montiel also highlighted a historic milestone for Mexico: the election of a female president, marking the first time in 200 years that a woman holds the nation's highest office. This development is seen as a powerful reinforcement of women's representation in governance and a commitment to enhancing women's rights and social support in the country. The advancements in these areas reflect an evolving landscape for women's rights and contributions, striving towards a more equitable society in Mexico.
