PST: The explosion is within what we expected
PST reports that the recent explosion near the US embassy falls within the expected risk as per their current threat assessment.
The Norwegian Security Service (PST) held a press briefing stating that the explosion near the US embassy was anticipated within the context of their ongoing threat assessment. BjΓΈrn-Willy Wold, head of the counter-terrorism section, clarified that no suspect has been identified or located following the incident. Despite the explosion, PST has not elevated the overall threat level, indicating it specifically relates to an increased threat towards American, Jewish, and Israeli interests.
Wold explained that while the explosion aligns with potential incidents outlined in their threat evaluation, the general threat level for society remains stable. He noted that any adjustments to the threat assessment would depend on the emergence of additional actors or follow-up actions linked to the blast. As of now, the situation does not seem to warrant a change in public safety protocols.
When asked whether the attack could have been prevented, Wold acknowledged the complexity of preempting such events, emphasizing that the current security measures are robust but always face uncertainties in the dynamic landscape of potential terrorism. The briefing indicated that visible security measures have been heightened around sensitive areas, a reflection of the ongoing vigilance amidst troubling developments.
