Since November 2023, the Ecuadorian government has allocated approximately $6.448 billion through public banks to finance women, promoting their economic autonomy.
Since the beginning of the current government in November 2023, the Ecuadorian Ministry of Economy and Finance has reported that around $6.448 billion has been allocated for financing women, translating into 3.12 million credit operations aimed at enhancing their economic autonomy and productive growth. This initiative coincides with International Women's Day and highlights the government's efforts to support women's empowerment through financial aid.
Public institutions such as BanEcuador and the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute's Bank (Biess) have played crucial roles in this financing, with figures available up to February 2026. Notably, Biess leads the funding effort with $5.283 billion distributed across 43,107 operations, while BanEcuador follows with $593 million across 130,098 operations. The National Corporation of Popular and Solidarity Finances (Conafips) also contributes with $321 million in funding.
This substantial investment signifies the government's commitment to women's financial independence and productivity enhancement. By facilitating access to credit, the initiative aims to bolster women's economic standing in Ecuador, reflecting broader global efforts towards gender equality and women’s empowerment, especially around significant dates such as International Women's Day.
