Severe rain alert issued in São Paulo, and the city enters a state of alert for flooding
São Paulo is under a severe rain alert as the city experiences moderate to heavy rainfall, leading to potential flooding in various regions.
On Sunday afternoon, São Paulo entered a state of alert due to the formation of instability areas causing moderate to heavy rainfall across the capital. The Civil Defense issued a severe alert for storms in the west, north, and central zones of the city. Since 1:14 PM, the entire capital has been on alert for potential flooding as weather conditions remain unstable.
According to the Climate Emergencies Management Center of the São Paulo City Hall (CGE), the rain is primarily impacting the west, north, and central regions, with reports of rain also in the Ibirapuera area in the south zone and parts of the east zone. The weather is expected to remain unstable in the coming hours, with the potential for isolated, intense downpours accompanied by gusty winds and an increased risk of flooding.
This severe weather comes in the wake of a tragic incident where two people died in the state due to previous rain conditions on Saturday. The alerts signify the ongoing challenges faced by the city regarding extreme weather and its impact on urban infrastructure and public safety.
