The UAE denies targeting an Iranian desalination facility and confirms it is in a state of self-defense
The UAE has denied claims of attacking an Iranian desalination facility, stating it is protecting itself against Iranian aggression.
On Sunday, the UAE dismissed reports from Israeli media alleging that it targeted a desalination facility in Iran. The UAE affirmed that it is not seeking to be dragged into conflicts or escalate tensions in the region. According to a statement from the UAE's Foreign Ministry, the nation is in a state of self-defense against what it describes as an unprovoked and aggressive Iranian attack, which included the launch of over 1,400 ballistic missiles and drones at its infrastructure and civilian sites, resulting in casualties among civilians.
The UAE characterized these alleged Iranian actions as a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter, emphasizing that they threaten the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement firmly asserted the UAE's right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, national security, and territorial safety, reiterating that it does not wish to escalate the situation.
The claims from Israeli media, specifically from Channel 15, circulated earlier on Sunday, indicating that sources within Israel asserted that the UAE had attacked the Iranian desalination station. This ongoing tension highlights the precarious nature of regional relations in the Middle East, with both nations on alert for potential military responses and implications for broader security dynamics in the area.
