In a coordinated effort between the Military Police, Environmental Police, and the Zoonoses Surveillance Unit, eight horses were rescued from public roads in Presidente Prudente, SΓ£o Paulo. This latest action follows a concerning trend in the region, as ten large animals were collected just in the first week of March alone, raising awareness among residents about responsible pet ownership.
Additionally, the local authorities reported that 26 animals had been rescued since the beginning of the year, with a total of 84 recoveries recorded in 2024. This increase in interventions signals a growing commitment to public safety and animal welfare in the region. One notable incident involved a driver being fined R$ 6,000 for dragging two horses behind a moving vehicle, showcasing the severe consequences of ignoring animal control laws.
