Teresa Páez, the woman who crossed borders and dedicated 56 years to education in Ecuador and Peru
Teresa Páez, a retired teacher with 56 years of experience in education, continues to nurture young minds at home in Ecuador after a long career spanning Ecuador and Peru.
Teresa Páez, a dedicated educator, has spent more than fifty-six years teaching, ensuring that no student is left behind. At 79 years old and retired since April 2024, she still welcomes students into her home for extra tutoring in reading, writing, and various school subjects. Her passion for teaching is evident, as she states, "I work because I love my profession," highlighting the profound impact she has had on countless lives throughout her long career.
Páez’s journey into teaching began far from her hometown of Guayaquil. At the age of eight, after her mother remarried, they moved to Lima, where her transition was challenging. Struggling with homesickness and health issues, she managed to overcome initial setbacks to pursue her education. Although she lacked formal certificates from Ecuador, she passed the necessary exams to continue her studies in Peru. This determination laid the foundation for her successful career as a teacher.
With over six thousand students passing through her classrooms over the decades, many have expressed their gratitude, often reuniting with her on birthdays through letters and messages detailing their life paths. Teresa Páez’s story serves as an inspiring reminder of the profound influence one dedicated individual can have on the education and personal development of a generation, transcending geographic boundaries in the process.
