China: 2026 is a pivotal year for our relations with America
China sees 2026 as a crucial year for improving relations with the United States, as confirmed by Foreign Minister Wang Yi ahead of an upcoming summit with President Biden.
China has expressed hopes that 2026 will mark a pivotal year in its relationship with the United States, reflecting a positive tone from Beijing ahead of an important summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump later this month. During a speech on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that this year is significant for bilateral relations, despite acknowledging existing disagreements between the two nations.
Wang emphasized that both leaders have maintained good communication at high levels, which he believes provides a "strategic guarantee" for the development of bilateral ties. Looking ahead to upcoming high-level visits, he highlighted the necessity for both sides to adequately prepare for these exchanges, foster a suitable atmosphere, manage existing disputes, and eliminate unnecessary distractions.
Concluding his remarks, Wang affirmed that China has always maintained a positive and open stance towards the U.S., asserting that the key to improving relations lies in constructive engagement. This optimistic outlook indicates a willingness from China to work on strengthening ties with the U.S. amidst the complex geopolitical landscape.
