Gaza Health: The death toll from Israeli genocide rises to 72,126
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza reports the death toll from Israeli attacks has reached 72,126, amidst ongoing violations of a ceasefire agreement.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Sunday that the toll from the ongoing Israeli assault has escalated to 72,126 fatalities and 171,809 injuries. Over the past 24 hours, hospitals in the region have reported three new martyrs, including one killed in the ongoing violence and two recovered from debris, alongside four additional injuries. Significantly, this marks a continuation of the violence despite a ceasefire agreement effective since October 10, which has seen daily breaches by Israeli forces through bombardments and gunfire that result in further casualties.
The Ministry also indicated that since the ceasefire was established, there have been 641 fatalities and 1,711 injuries attributed to these ongoing violations. Moreover, it highlighted that this conflict, which commenced on October 7, 2023, with what is described as a campaign of genocide by Israel, has resulted in a catastrophic humanitarian situation. The war has devastated approximately 90% of Gaza's civil infrastructure, with the United Nations estimating reconstruction costs at around $70 billion.
The context of the ceasefire agreement, reached after two years of intense conflict and supported by American backing, underscores the precarious nature of the situation. The incessant violence, including daily breaches of the ceasefire, raises significant concerns regarding the protection of civilians and the international community’s response to the humanitarian crisis, as images and reports of the devastation continue to emerge from Gaza.
