Ishikawa Prefectural Governor Election, Yoshiyuki Yamano and Hiroshi Haji Compete Fiercely - Asahi Shimbun Exit Survey
The Ishikawa Prefectural Governor election showed a fierce competition between independent candidate Yoshiyuki Yamano and incumbent Hiroshi Haji according to an exit poll by Asahi Shimbun.
The exit poll conducted by Asahi Shimbun on the 8th, the day of the Ishikawa Prefectural Governor election, revealed a vigorous contest between independent candidate Yoshiyuki Yamano, the former mayor of Kanazawa, and incumbent Hiroshi Haji, who is aiming for reelection with support from the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Nippon Ishin. Additionally, Akira Kuroba, an elderly candidate representing a volunteer group and supported by the Communist Party, is facing an uphill battle in the election. The poll did not include early voting results and was carried out at 69 polling stations across the prefecture.
Yamano is gaining momentum by securing almost 60% of support from nonpartisan voters while also receiving about 35% support from LDP supporters. On the other hand, Haji has widespread backing among LDP supporters, garnering over 60% of their votes and about 40% from nonpartisan voters. Notably, more than 50% of those who support the Takagi cabinet express support for Haji, although Yamano also manages to attract almost 45% of that same demographic.
Voter sentiment towards Haji's first term shows a strong positive response, with about 80% of respondents stating they either highly or somewhat approve of his governance. When asked about the most important policies to prioritize for the next governor, nearly 40% emphasized 'economic and industrial promotion,' followed by 'disaster recovery,' 'healthcare and welfare,' 'education and childcare,' 'population decline measures,' and 'environmental preservation' related to groundwater.
