Luge athlete Aparjode finishes the World Cup season with a bronze medal
Latvian luger Kendija Aparjode secured a bronze medal at the World Cup season finale, finishing closely behind her competitors.
Kendija Aparjode, representing Latvia, achieved a notable bronze medal at the final stage of the World Cup luging season. In her first run, she clocked an impressive 52.034 seconds, narrowly beating German competitor Merli Fräbel by just 0.002 seconds, while also edging out the overall season leader, Julia Taubitz, by 0.035 seconds. This performance positioned Aparjode as a strong contender amongst the elite athletes in the competition, showcasing her talent on the international stage.
In the decisive phase of the event, Liza Schulte made a remarkable showing by becoming the first from the top five to finish a run under 52 seconds, recording a time of 51.865 seconds. However, despite her impressive performance, this was not sufficient to secure a podium finish, as remaining competitors maintained strong results. Fräbel ultimately won the race with a combined time of one minute and 43.790 seconds, while Taubitz finished just behind her, preserving her overall season victory by a margin of 0.137 seconds.
Aparjode faced challenges in her second run, initially losing time at the start against her German rivals. Nevertheless, she managed to regain her speed through the middle section of the track. Unfortunately, a miscalculation in the lower part of the course prevented her from achieving her first career win, as she ended up recording only the fourth fastest time in that run. Ultimately, with her combined times, Aparjode's performance cemented her place among the top contenders in women's luging for the season.
