Latvia's Wheelchair Curling Team Loses to Sweden

Latvia's wheelchair curling team faced their second loss against Sweden at the Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina.

The Latvian wheelchair curling team suffered its second defeat at the Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina, losing 2-10 against Sweden in their third match. The Latvian mixed team, consisting of Elija Asniņa, Linda Meijere, Adelaida Killiana, Ojārs Briedis, and Sergejs Djačenko, ended the game after the sixth end, marking a tough tournament for the squad after earlier losing to South Korea as well.

Prior to their match against Sweden, Latvia's team had received a heavy defeat of 2-10 against South Korea but managed to bounce back impressively with a 9-0 victory over Slovakia. The team is set to face a challenging schedule ahead, including matches against Canada, the USA, China, Norway, Great Britain, and Italy. With a limited number of teams advancing, only four out of ten will make it to the semifinals, adding pressure to their upcoming games.

In addition to the team matches, the mixed doubles pairing of Polīna Rožkova and Agris Lasmans will also be competing, having had a mixed performance thus far, including a win over Estonia and Italy after some earlier defeats. The current standings see Latvia’s wheelchair curlers at a share of fourth place with a record of 2-3 after five matches, highlighting the competitive nature of this Paralympic event.
