Riga Residents Actively Use the Opportunity to Connect to the City’s Centralized Sewer System; The Pain Child - Dārziņi
Residents in Riga have the chance to connect over 2,300 homes to the city's centralized sewer system, which could benefit around 7,500 people.
In Riga, over 2,300 homes are eligible to connect to the city's centralized sewer system, potentially benefiting about 7,500 residents. According to the municipal company "Rīgas ūdens," the number of homes connecting exceeds those that have received city co-funding for such connections in the last seven years. Local homeowners can receive up to 2,000 euros from the municipality to assist with these connections, making it a financially viable option for many.
The company's representative, Sandris Vanzovičs, explained that for the majority of homes that have yet to connect, the process is straightforward. By switching to the centralized system, residents would avoid the need for regular cleanings from waste collection services, which are necessary for homes relying on decentralized systems. Despite the ease of connection, some homeowners are hesitant, possibly due to recent investments in modern waste treatment solutions or fear of the transition to centralized services.
The municipality's initiative aims to enhance public health and sanitation by significantly increasing the number of homes connected to the centralized sewer system. However, converting those who are still using decentralised services will take continued effort, especially in addressing concerns and providing financial assistance. This underscores the city's commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring better living conditions for its residents.
