ETV2 thematic evening is dedicated to Grigori Kromanov
ETV2 will host a thematic evening dedicated to filmmaker Grigori Kromanov, marking the 100th anniversary of his birth on March 8th.
ETV2 is honoring Grigori Kromanov with a special thematic evening on March 8th, coinciding with the centenary of his birth. The event features the screening of "Viimne reliikvia" (The Last Relic), a historical adventure film set during the Livonian War in the 16th century. The film is well-known for its memorable lines and songs that have become ingrained in Estonian culture.
The storyline follows Hans von Risbiter, portrayed as the best rider in Livonia, who embarks on an adventure with the beautiful Agnes von Mönnikhusen. Their attempt to marry becomes complicated when a relic needed for the ceremony becomes central to their trials, involving monks and the bride's family. The narrative, drawn from Eduard Bornhöhe's tale "Vürst Gabriel," was adapted by Arvo Valton, with contributions from notable Estonian artists including director Grigori Kromanov and others who helped shape the film's music and visuals.
Kromanov's legacy is significant in Estonia, particularly in cinema, as he contributed to defining national identity through film. The thematic evening not only commemorates his work but also aims to revive interest in classical Estonian cinema, as it highlights the cultural significance of historical films like "Viimne reliikvia" that resonate with contemporary audiences. This dedication marks an effort to preserve and celebrate Estonia's cinematic heritage, particularly during significant anniversaries.
