‘This is just the beginning, we will search for them in every corner’: Defense Minister on offensive against drug cartels

Ecuador's Armed Forces have initiated a major offensive, dubbed 'Total Extermination', against drug cartel structures, executing a bombing operation in Sucumbíos province with the assistance of the United States.

Ecuador's Minister of Defense, Gian Carlo Loffredo, announced the start of a comprehensive military offensive against drug cartels operating in the country, highlighting a specific operation in Sucumbíos province as part of this initiative. The operation, named 'Total Extermination', included bombings of a camp used by the narcoterrorist group Comandos de la Frontera and was executed in coordination with the United States Southern Command.

Loffredo emphasized that the decision followed extensive intelligence work, reconnaissance, and aerial surveillance conducted over several weeks. The offensive aims to dismantle the organized crime networks that have been increasingly destabilizing Ecuador, marking a significant escalation in the country's fight against drug-related violence and crime.

The collaboration with the United States signals a strengthened international partnership in addressing the growing concern of narcotrafficking in the region. The Ecuadorian government, under pressure from rising violence, views this operation as a critical step towards restoring order and security, with the Minister expressing determination that this is just the beginning of a broader crackdown on drug cartels throughout the country.
