During the match, she faced challenges, particularly in the second set where she lost her serve and found herself trailing at 4-5. However, showcasing her tenacity, Ostapenko won the following game, leveling the score and then taking the lead at 6-5 before narrowly missing a match point. She ultimately secured the second set in a tiebreak, winning 7-5.

Ostapenko benefited from a bye in the first round, while her opponent Volineca had just defeated Slovakia's Rebecca Šramková in the first round.
