Technicians inspect affected area on the E25 Arenillas-Río Puyango road to restore passage between El Oro and Loja

Technicians are assessing damage on the E25 road, which has been blocked due to a collapse caused by heavy rains and infrastructure failure.

A segment of the E25 state highway, connecting Arenillas to Las Lajas and leading to Puyango in Loja province, collapsed on March 6 due to a drainage structure failure amidst heavy rainfall. This incident has completely halted vehicular movement, impacting one of the main routes linking southern El Oro with Loja.

The collapse occurred in the jurisdiction of Las Lajas canton, specifically before reaching an area known as El Tigre, where the drainage system gave way, leading to asphalt detachment and the formation of a sinkhole. Initial technical assessments indicate that the affected area measures approximately 30 meters in length, raising concerns about safety in the weakened terrain.

Authorities are working urgently to evaluate and address the situation, as the E25 road is critical for transportation between these provinces. The ongoing heavy rains continue to pose risks for both the repair work and the surrounding infrastructure, necessitating careful planning and quick action to restore safe passage for vehicles in the area.
