Public notice for the concession of aquarium, park, and tourist elevator of Piracicaba to private initiative ends without interested parties
The public bidding for the concession of Piracicaba's Municipal Aquarium, Mirante Park, and Tourist Elevator concluded without attracting any bidders.
The municipality of Piracicaba in São Paulo, Brazil, recently concluded a public bidding process for the concession of its Municipal Aquarium, Mirante Park, and a tourist elevator, but no interested parties came forward to participate. This situation was confirmed by the Municipal Administration to G1 on Wednesday, as they noted the proposals from prospective companies were expected to be opened on February 24, 2026.
Officials from the Municipal Tourism Secretariat have indicated that they will need to evaluate their options going forward regarding a potential new bidding process. A legislative project that was approved in the City Council in September 2024 legally authorized the concession of these facilities, covering a total area of 28,500 square meters—approximately equivalent to four soccer fields.
One requirement of the concession is that the selected company must invest R$ 8.2 million into the development and maintenance of these areas. The lack of interest in the public bidding raises questions about the viability of private investment in local tourism infrastructure, which could impact the growth and appeal of Piracicaba as a tourist destination.
