Symposium at UiO: Spontaneous Abortions and Prenatal Diagnoses Connected Experiences of Mothers and Scientists

A scientific symposium titled "Journey Through Uncertainty" was held in Zagreb to address the experiences of women facing spontaneous abortions and severe prenatal diagnoses, aiming to improve care for these women and their families.

On March 7, 2026, ahead of International Women's Day, a scientific symposium entitled "Journey Through Uncertainty" was organized by the association In the Name of the Family in Zagreb. The event focused on the experiences of women grappling with spontaneous abortions or severe prenatal diagnoses and aimed to enhance support for them and their families. The symposium brought together experts and aimed to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and the real-life experiences of affected families.

The Croatian Medical Chamber and the Croatian Psychological Society recognized the symposium as professional development. Additionally, it was registered with several other professional chambers including those for psychotherapists, nurses, midwives, social workers, and social educators. This highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the emotional and psychological impact of such difficult experiences on families.

The organization emphasized that the experience of spontaneous abortion and severe prenatal diagnoses profoundly affects not only mothers but also fathers and the extended family as well as health professionals involved. By fostering open discussions and sharing insights between parents and scientists, the symposium aimed to create a comprehensive framework for better care and understanding of these traumatic life events, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes for families in similar situations.
