Insecurity: Kwara RTEAN urges motorists to avoid night travel

The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in Kwara has urged motorists to refrain from night travel due to security concerns.

The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Kwara has issued an advisory to motorists, urging them to avoid traveling at night on high-risk roads due to escalating security challenges, particularly incidences of kidnapping. The state's chairman, Abdulrahman Onikijipa, emphasized the importance of vigilance and awareness among drivers, particularly on isolated routes and highways that pose a greater risk. The association's call is a response to the increasing threats that have made night driving more dangerous in the region.

Onikijipa mentioned that the association is taking the security situation seriously and is actively working to inform and educate its members on safety measures. To this end, RTEAN has intensified its sensitization efforts through regular meetings, driver briefings, and other union engagements aimed at fostering a culture of safety on the roads. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance driver awareness and encourage proactive measures in preventing incidents on the roads.

The call to avoid night travel comes amid growing concerns over safety which affect not only the drivers but also passengers and the broader commuter community. By advising motorists to stay off dangerous routes during the night, RTEAN is highlighting the critical need for heightened security awareness and the collective responsibility of all road users to prioritize their safety in light of the prevailing insecurity in Nigeria.
