Russian strike hits Kharkiv school for third time, blowing out 160 windows
A Kharkiv school has suffered extensive damage from a Russian strike for the third time since the beginning of the war, with 160 windows shattered and classrooms affected.
On March 7, a secondary school located in the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv was hit by a Russian strike, marking the third occasion the institution has been targeted since the escalation of conflict in early 2022. The latest attack resulted in around 160 windows being blown out and classrooms sustaining significant damage. According to Karina Kruk, the deputy head of the school, this strike has caused the most extensive destruction to date, rendering every classroom affected.
Karina Kruk, who resides directly opposite the school, described the incident occurring shortly after an earlier strike on adjoining residential buildings. She was alerted to the damage when staff contacted her, indicating the severity of the impact on the schoolβs infrastructure. The attack not only shattered windows but also damaged nearly all emergency entrance doors, thereby compromising the safety and accessibility for students and staff.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges and dangers faced by educational institutions in Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict. Schools have frequently been caught in the crossfire, and this strike serves as a stark reminder of the broader implications of the war on the civilian population and critical infrastructures like schools. As the situation continues to evolve, the safety of students and the integrity of educational facilities remain at risk, prompting international concern and calls for accountability regarding strikes targeting civilian structures.
