In South Africa, a newly established Helpdesk for Higher Education has resolved over 55,000 student queries since its launch in August 2024, achieving a 90% resolution rate.

The South African Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Mimmy Gondwe, has announced that the recently established student and stakeholder Helpdesk has addressed over 55,000 queries as of May 2024. Launched in August 2024, the Helpdesk aims to facilitate communication between the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) sector and the student population, offering essential assistance and information to students and the public. The initiative reflects a significant commitment to enhancing the quality of higher education support in South Africa.

The Helpdesk has successfully resolved a total of 55,121 queries out of 57,283 received, resulting in an impressive resolution rate of about 90%. This service primarily focuses on critical areas concerning student finances, registration statuses, and the issuance of academic results, diplomas, and certificates. With personalized support, the Helpdesk plays a pivotal role in alleviating bottlenecks that often students face in their academic journeys.

Minister Gondwe emphasized that the Helpdesk embodies her vision of bridging higher education with the communities and enhancing student support. It provides a necessary interface that not only assists students with immediate concerns but also strengthens the connection between educational institutions and their stakeholders, ultimately fostering a more responsive educational environment.
